Wooting 80HE US-ANSI – black Hall-Effect Gaming Keyboard with True 8 kHz
Gaming & Everyday Life
The Wooting 80U combines a space-saving 80% layout with Hall Effect technology that is consistently designed for fast and precise inputs. This black pre-built variant comes in the US-ANSI layout, with Lekker L60 V2 Linear60 switches and ARM platform. The magnetic switches continuously measure how far a key is pressed. This allows the activation point to be individually adjusted with 0.1 mm precision – for example, particularly sensitive to WASD and deliberately a little lower for keys that should not be accidentally triggered. At 346 x 142 mm, the Wooting 80U remains compact without omitting function keys, arrow keys and important navigation keys. The black PCR-ABS housing brings the keyboard to around 790 g. Interchangeable silicone feet allow angles of 2.8°, 6° or 10°. Per-key RGB and the separate LED bar provide illumination and status indicators. Since this is a pre-built version, the keyboard is already delivered fully assembled, including keycaps.
Technology & Configuration
The real heart of the system is the Lekker L60 V2 Hall-Effect Switches. Magnets within the switches and sensors on the PCB continuously determine the exact position of each key. This analog detection forms the basis for Rapid Trigger, Adjustable Actuation, Rappy Snappy, Snappy Tappy, DKS, Controller Input and other functions. For typing feel and acoustics, Wooting combines a polycarbonate switch plate with a silicone gasket mount. The silicone gasket decouples the PCBA and switch plate and absorbs some of the impact energy. The flexible PC plate attenuates higher frequencies and supports a softer, deeper sound. Screw-down screw-in stabilizers guide larger keys stably and can be exchanged for many third-party models if necessary.
True 8 kHz Polling Rate
The Wooting 80HE combines an 8 kHz scanning rate with True 8 kHz polling. This captures key inputs up to 8000 times per second and transmits them to the computer. The resulting input latency is around 0.125 ms. For True 8 kHz, Tachyon Mode is activated in Wootility. The keyboard concentrates a larger part of its computing power on key capture. The RGB brightness is reduced and RGB effects are deactivated – less light show, but full concentration on fast inputs.
The Power of Analog
A classic mechanical keyboard basically only knows two states: key pressed or not pressed. The Hall Effect sensors of the Wooting 80U, on the other hand, detect the actual pressure depth. This creates variable activation points, dynamic reset points and functions that can trigger different actions depending on the position of a key.
Rapid Trigger
Rapid Trigger works without a classic fixed reset point. As soon as a configured button moves up, it can be deactivated. When pressed down again, it is immediately reactivated. Especially when changing movements quickly in shooters, this reduces unnecessary key travel. A key does not have to return far before the next input can be triggered – practical for counter-strafing, quick changes of direction and repeated actions.
Adjustable Actuation
The activation point can be adjusted per key with 0.1 mm precision. Very early triggering is suitable for motion keys, for example, while longer distances can reduce unintentional inputs with other keys.
On LED Bar
In addition to per-key RGB lighting, the Wooting 80HE has an LED bar with ten segments. Among other things, it can display active profiles or the status of Rappy Snappy and can also be used as an optical element.
Silicone Gasket Mount
The PCBA and Switch Plate are connected to each other via a silicone gasket. This dampens strokes and makes the typing feel less rigid. At the same time, annoying noises are reduced.
PC Switch Plate
The Switch Plate is made of polycarbonate. The flexible material attenuates some of the higher frequencies and supports a softer sound character. Together with the Gasket Mount, the result is a more comfortable typing experience than with a rigidly mounted metal plate.
Screw-in Stabilizers
Screw-in stabilizers reduce unwanted rattling with larger buttons. They can also be exchanged for many screw-in or clip-in stabilizers from other manufacturers.
Ergonomics
The Wooting 80HE has a low front and can be adjusted to the desired hand position via interchangeable silicone feet. The basic angle is 2.8°. With the included feet, an additional 6° and 10° are available. The front height is 19.4 mm without keycaps and 28.4 mm with OEM keycaps.
Rappy Snappy
Rappy Snappy continuously compares two selected keys and keeps the lower-pressed key active. This is particularly exciting with A and D in FPS games. When changing direction, the input can jump from one key to another almost immediately. It is precisely these small differences that make a surprising difference in hectic duels.
Snappy Tappy (SOCD)
Snappy Tappy determines how two selected keys pressed at the same time are handled. By default, the function works with Last Input Priority.
- Last Input Priority prioritizes the last button pressed
- Absolute Priority X permanently prioritizes button X
- Absolute Priority Y permanently prioritizes key Y
- Neutral registers no button when pressed at the same time
DKS (Dynamic Keystroke)
Dynamic Keystroke allows up to four actions on a single button. The decisive factor is the position when pressing and releasing.
- Action 1 when the press down begins
- Action 2 with the button fully pressed
- Action 3 when releasing after pressing down completely
- Action 4 when fully releasing
Remap
Remap can be used to freely reassign keys and distribute additional functions to input layers. Media controls, shortcuts or rarely used commands can thus be placed on additional layers.
Mod Tap
Mod Tap assigns two different actions to a button. A short tap can trigger one function, while a longer press and hold can trigger another. The desired hold time can be set per button.
Controller Input
The analog key capture can also be used as controller input. Instead of knowing only full throttle or no throttle, the key travel can be used for finer throttle or brake values in racing games, for example. This means that the Wooting 80U uses its Hall Effect technology not only for fast shooter inputs, but also for analog control.
Toggle Key
Toggle Key turns an action into an on/off function. One press of a button activates it, the next ends it again. This is suitable, for example, for auto-walk, sprinting, crouching, push-to-talk or permanently required modifiers.
Wootility
The configuration is done via Wootility as an app or directly in the browser. Rapid triggers, activation points, RGB, key assignments and numerous other settings can be adjusted centrally. Up to four profiles are stored directly on the keyboard and can then be used without open software.
Intuitive & Powerful
Wootility enables quick basic settings and detailed per-key tuning at the same time. If you only want to turn on Rapid Trigger, you will quickly reach your goal. If, on the other hand, you want to configure each individual button differently, you will find much more leeway.
Lightweight & Accessible
Wootility works as an application and in the browser. Up to four onboard profiles remain stored directly on the Wooting 80U and are also available after changing devices.
