Keychron K3 HE Black Wood – Flat Magnetic Switch Keyboard with Natural Wood and ANSI US Layout
Ideal for beginners
The Keychron K3 HE Black Wood combines flat keys with magnetic switch technology and dark natural wood. The compact 75% format leaves room for the mouse, while function keys and arrow keys are retained. This version has an American ANSI-US layout with QWERTY arrangement. Whether office, home office or gaming: The keyboard can be used wirelessly or via cable and can be adapted to your own typing and gaming style.
For IT professionals & enthusiasts
Here, not only the button assignment can be changed. Hall effect sensors detect the actuation depth and enable individually adjustable trigger points, dynamic rapid triggers and analog inputs. QMK firmware, the Keychron Launcher web app and interchangeable magnetic switches offer scope for individual settings and adjustments to the structure.
Colour variants
The Black Wood version combines black surfaces with dark natural wood elements. Alternatively, the K3 HE is available in white with light wood. Both variants combine an aluminum frame with flat double-shot PBT keycaps.
Wood meets metal
The aluminum frame and wooden elements give the keyboard its characteristic look. Inside sits an aluminum plate, while the lower case is made of ABS plastic. The tray-mount construction forms the basis for the bolted construction.
Ultra-flat design
With a height of 22 mm at the front and 25.4 mm at the rear including keycaps, the K3 HE remains flat. The tilt can be adjusted to 2°, 4.5° or 7.5°. A footprint of 318.62 × 126 mm and a weight of 575 g make it easy to switch between different workstations.
Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Low-Profile Magnetic Switches
The linear magnetic switches are factory-lubricated and detect key movements contactlessly via Hall effect sensors. The 12.1 mm high switches use POM material and are designed for 100 million actuations. Their initial force is 30 g, the final force is 60 g. The linear behavior ensures a smooth key travel without a tactile pressure point.
Individually adjustable trigger points
The actuation point of each key can be set between 0.2 and 2.9 mm, with a sensitivity of 0.1 mm. A short actuation distance is suitable for fast input. A deeper actuation point helps to reduce accidental actuations when typing. This allows game keys and normal letter keys to react differently.
Last Key Priority and Snap Click
Last Key Priority prefers the last button pressed for competing inputs. Snap Click prioritizes the lower one pressed by two keys pressed at the same time and resets the one pressed flatter. Both features are disabled by default and can be enabled in the Keychron Launcher if needed.
One key, multiple commands
Dynamic Keystrokes allows up to four actions on one key, distributed over different levels of pressing and releasing. For example, a light button press can trigger a walking movement, and a deeper press can trigger a race. This allows multiple actions to be controlled via a single key path.
Dynamic Rapid Trigger
Rapid Trigger aligns activation and reset with the movement of the button. This means that the button does not have to return to a fixed reset point to release the button again. Small up and down movements are sufficient for quick follow-up inputs – for example, during frequent changes of direction in the game.
Analog mode
The analog mode translates the actuation depth into variable inputs, similar to a controller. In supported games, for example, the movement or driving speed can be dosed. Between a light tap and full press, different input strengths are available.
Programming with QMK and Keychron Launcher
The QMK open-source firmware enables individual key assignments, macros and key combinations. The Keychron Launcher web app can also be used to configure magnetic functions and lighting. Current versions of Chrome, Edge and Opera are supported. This allows the settings to be adjusted directly in the browser.
2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C
Via 2.4 GHz wireless and USB-C, the keyboard works with a polling rate of 1000 Hz. Bluetooth 5.2 allows you to pair up to three devices and switch between them; here the polling rate is 125 Hz. N-Key Rollover supports the detection of several keys pressed at the same time, both wirelessly and wired.
ARM microcontroller with 256 KB flash memory
An ARM microcontroller with 256 KB of flash memory forms the technical basis for the customizable functions. Together with the QMK firmware, it supports individual configuration and processing of key inputs.
Customizable build and muffled sound
The individual components are designed for easy assembly and adjustment. Foam layers and a silicone backing reduce resonances and typing noises. A PET film complements the inner structure. Stabilizers mounted on the aluminum plate support an even stroke on larger keys.
For macOS, Windows and Linux
The K3 HE supports macOS, Windows and Linux. A system switcher adapts the key assignment to Mac or Windows. For Mac, the corresponding multimedia and function keys are available. The physical keyboard layout of this version remains ANSI-US.
Flat double-shot PBT keycaps
The keycaps have the flat LSA profile and are made of double-shot PBT. The material resists skin oil and abrasion; the lettering, which is manufactured in a two-component process, remains durable. The lettering is not translucent. The RGB lighting therefore primarily sets the scene for the spaces between the keys.
Hot-swap without soldering
The magnetic switches can be replaced with the included puller. No soldering is required. The hot-swap mounts are only compatible with Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Low-Profile Magnetic Switches.
Individual RGB lighting
North-facing RGB LEDs offer over 22 lighting settings, including static white. In addition, Per-Key RGB and Mix RGB are available. Both functions can be configured via the Keychron Launcher.
Per-Key RGB
With Per-Key RGB, the color of each key can be set individually. Frequently used keys can be highlighted in color or combined to create their own color groups.
Mix RGB
Mix RGB divides the keyboard into two individually configurable lighting zones. Each zone can have its own effect, so that different light patterns can be combined with each other.
Battery and wireless runtime
The rechargeable lithium polymer battery has a capacity of 2600 mAh. Keychron mentions a wireless runtime of up to 55 hours. The actual runtime depends on use.
